Below is a composite radar/satellite image from Wunderground over Oregon.  As you can see, there is potentially some thunderstorms approaching the central Oregon area.

Saturday, August 6, 2016

Here is the Wunderground composite radar/inferred satellite image for 8/6/2016 at 18:24.  As you can see the central part of Oregon is having a great sunny day, but not so much to the east in Idaho.

I have updated the Google Earth image of yesterday's wildfire starts as of 16:00 PDT.  It now includes today's starts and the current designations instead of lat/long designations.

URGENT - FIRE WEATHER MESSAGE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PENDLETON OR
1035 PM PDT FRI AUG 5 2016

...SCATTERED DRY THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE THROUGH SUNDAY...

.SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL CONTINUE DEVELOPING ACROSS
CENTRAL OREGON...AND WILL TRACK NORTH EAST OVERNIGHT. THE EASTERN
MOUNTAINS ARE FAVORED FOR THUNDERSTORMS TONIGHT...WHERE
INSTABILITY IS GREATEST...AND HAINES IS A HIGH 5. THERE IS ALSO A
SLIGHT CHANCE ACROSS THE BLUE MOUNTAIN FOOTHILLS AND EASTERN
PORTIONS OF THE LOWER COLUMBIA BASIN...BUT THERE IS CONSIDERABLE
UNCERTAINTY DUE TO DIFFERING MODEL GUIDANCE AND A PROFOUND LACK OF
MOISTURE IN THESE AREAS. ANY STORMS COULD PRODUCE ABUNDANT
LIGHTNING AND GUSTY OUTFLOW WINDS...WITH MINIMAL RAIN. ALTHOUGH
BRIEF DOWNPOURS WILL BE POSSIBLE UNDER STORM CORES...IN GENERAL...
LESS THAN A TENTH OF AN INCH OF RAIN IS EXPECTED. ADDITIONALLY...
SURFACE RELATIVE HUMIDITY WILL BE VERY LOW THIS EVENING...AND
WINDS WILL BECOME BREEZY...ESPECIALLY ACROSS WESTERN PORTIONS OF
THE LOWER COLUMBIA BASIN. ANY NEW LIGHTNING FIRES HAVE THE
POTENTIAL TO SPREAD RAPIDLY DUE TO VERY DRY FUELS AND GUSTY WINDS.

A SECOND WAVE ASSOCIATED WITH A DEEP LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL
BRING MORE THUNDERSTORMS TO THE EASTERN MOUNTAINS...AND POSSIBLY
THE WASHINGTON COLUMBIA BASIN...SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A RED FLAG WARNING MEANS THAT CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS
ARE EITHER OCCURRING NOW....OR WILL SHORTLY. A COMBINATION OF
STRONG WINDS...LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY...AND WARM TEMPERATURES CAN
CONTRIBUTE TO EXTREME FIRE BEHAVIOR.
Good evening, we had some dry thunderstorms roll through this evening and we had a few new wildfire starts.  I do not have much information on any of the fires at this time, but here is an image I took of the locations of new wildfire starts for August 5th 2016.

Wednesday, July 23, 2014

Good morning, as most of you know, we had a lot of thunderstorm activity yesterday.  We had 3 major thunderstorms roll through and these and other storms ignited many new wildfires.  Well we are not out of the woods yet.  More thunderstorms are expected today and s of 6 am I am tracking thunderstorms over the Cascades north of Bend.  It will not be long until storms start developing east of the Cascades and we start taking more lightning.

We are under a RED FLAG WARNING issued by the National Weather Service for today through 5 pm.

73, and everyone be safe.
